We Were Children is a feature film produced through the National Film Board of Canada exploring the profound impact of the Canadian government’s residential school system conveyed through the eyes of two children who were forced to face hardships beyond their years. As young children, Lyna and Glen were taken from their homes and placed in church-run boarding schools, where they suffered years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, the effects of which persist in their adult lives. Employing personal accounts and dramatized scenes allows both Lyna and Glen to tell their experiences as their stories are presented by young actors. The adult Lyna Hart and Glen Anaquod portray themselves and their powerful accounts move viewers. This 82-minute DVD is directed by Tim Wolochatiuk and written by Jason Sherman. Unfortunately Glen Anaquod passed away in 2011 and did not view his contribution to understanding the true impact of residential schools. Highly Recommended for senior secondary students and adults due to disturbing contact not suitable for young children. The DVD contains an English version and a second version with French sub titles. It is available for home use only; and it is not for sale in United States. This NFB Home Use Only DVD from GoodMinds.com is only available for sale in Canada.
